Swen Gillberg, the visual effects supervisor for Deadpool & Wolverine, provides insight into how Cassandra Nova's powers were translated onto the screen. He describes the complex process of producing images for Cassandra to penetrate minds and skin, in an ugly but interesting effect. 'The team concentrated on making her powers feel organic and unsettling, using CGI to depict the surreal imagery of her fingers entering characters' skin,' Gillberg explains.
He further explains that the use of both practical effects and computer-generated elements was combined in order not to lose the visual authenticity of the story. The end result is a horrific display of powers for Cassandra Nova—their nature in keeping with the dark manipulations by the character. This inside look reveals the meticulous planning and innovation that goes into ensuring such effects serve the story while retaining the visual integrity of the Marvel universe.
